Where are you from and how did you end up being a licensed Virginia bail bondsman?
I am from Fairfax Virginia, I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I lived in Columbus Ohio and attended The Ohio State University where I received a degree in communications and marketing. I got into the bail bonds business in 2008, I had previously had my own company that let me have a very flexible schedule, I pretty much ran everything from a phone. So I had plenty of down time and I wanted to get into another line of business and make some extra money. I ended up googling a bunch of different industries and one industry that I have been interested in was something in the criminal justice field. A few hours later I found someone looking for a "bail bondsman agent". I had NO clue what a bail bond was, besides what I have seen in movies. I called the company up and after several times of being stood up due to the crazy schedule of being a bail bondsman, I was about to give up. Finally the owner gave me a few minutes of his time and about an hour later I was hired. I worked in the office for about 8 months before I was finally licensed, for some reason the state of VA was taking a long time to license new bondsman.

What is the daily schedule like of a Virginia bail bondsman?
Well obviously we don't really have a set schedule, its a 24 hour business. The mentality I had going into it was if I want to be successful I have to be available 24/7 and drop whatever I am doing to go write bonds. At the time I was young, single, and very motivated to save some money and figure out whats next.

When did you start Affordable Bail Bonds?
About two years after working under my mentor I stepped out of his shadow and partnered up with him and started taking on more responsibility and targeting different locations. Virginia Beach being one of them, after about another year we parted ways and I ended up focusing mainly on Virginia Beach bail bonds, and northern Virginia bail bonds.

Do you enjoy what you do?
I enjoy working for myself, and I enjoy helping people when they are down on their luck. Everyone gets in trouble every once in a while and needs help from time to time. It feels good when I help a mother or father get their child out of jail that really needs professional help, not sitting in a jail cell until their case is heard. It can take months before your case is over and if I can help someone get out of jail on bail to go back to work and provide for their family, thats the part I love. I guess you can say I enjoy helping people, although not every person I bail out ends up holding up their end of the deal but thats another topic for another day!

What is the biggest bond you have done?
Virginia does not typically issue large bonds like other states, I have seen a 250,000 bond in maryland for a 2nd DUI, where as Virginia you are looking at anywhere from 2500-7500. The biggest bond I have personally done was around 75,000.

What jails does Affordable Bail Bonds LLC do business at?
Well technically our agents are licensed to write bail bonds at any jail in Virginia. Our main locations are Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Prince William County. We have several licensed bail bond agents located very close to all of those jails.
